For Anna and Sarah Russell, nursing is a family affair. Both sisters are enrolled in the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing, Anna as a third semester student in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program and Sarah as a Pre-Nursing student. Only two years apart, Sarah and Anna have encouraged each other in their paths towards nursing.

The UAB Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery’s Wound, Ostomy and Continence care team received the 2025 Employer Recognition Award from the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB), joining an elite group of institutions recognized for outstanding support of nursing in wound, ostomy and continence (WOC) care.

UAB Nursing would like to congratulate the latest nurse residents on completing their program. The nurse residency is a comprehensive, 12-month program for newly licensed nurses that helps them transition into more competent clinical practice.

As her career has evolved, Caroline Baker, MSN, CRNP, PMHNP-BC (BSN 2011, MSN 2015, MSN 2020), believes the nursing profession has allowed her to maximize her skillsets and pursue her passions. The three-time alumna of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing uses her clinical expertise as a Nursing Professional Development Specialist in the Center for Nursing Excellence and Center for Psychiatric Medicine at UAB Hospital to provide accessible mental health education on social media.

UAB Medicine is proud to announce that Chief Nursing Officer Terri Poe, DNP, RN, NE-BC, and Associate Vice President of Ambulatory Services Andrea Boohaker, CRNP, have been selected for the 2025-2026 Johnson & Johnson Nurse Innovation Fellowship. This is a highly competitive, one-year fellowship that promotes nurse-led innovation and leadership within health systems.

UAB Medicine nursing staff had a blast celebrating Nurses Week 2025 with a series of fun and meaningful events, including a scavenger hunt, continuing education sessions, an award ceremony, trivia and games, visits from our furry friends at Hand in Paw Animal-Assisted Therapy, and a glow party at Bartow Arena.
