UAB Medicine congratulates the 2026 recipients of the Clinical Excellence in Nursing Award, the highest honor available for nursing staff.

To improve service and better meet demand, the UAB O’Neal Cancer Center began expanding our Acton Road clinic in March. The project should be completed by fall 2026.

Six UAB Medicine critical-care nursing units won 2025 Beacon Awards from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). This national honor recognizes units that distinguish themselves by providing high-quality patient care in a healthy work environment.

UAB Nursing would like to congratulate the latest nurse residents on completing their program. The nurse residency is a comprehensive, 12-month program for newly licensed nurses that helps them transition into more competent clinical practice.

The UAB School of Nursing is partnering with UAB Medicine, including UAB St. Vincent’s, to implement the Reach for the Stars Nursing Scholarship Program, a national initiative designed to help meet the demand for nurses by educating new RNs throughout the United States. The scholarships support hospital employees, including those working in part-time and flexible roles, who are interested in pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing.

University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing alumna Abby Judson, BSN, RN (BSN 2025), has found a shared calling in nursing with her mother, Assistant Professor and three-time alumna Tonya Judson, DNP, RN, NI‐BC, CNE (BSN 1997, MSN 2017, DNP 2021).

Heather McClellan has always had a love for nursing. Now, she is sharing her passion with the next generation.

We continue to see phishing and impersonation scams targeting UAB physicians. Recent activity includes scammers posing as representatives from the DEA, CMS, and other regulatory entities, attempting to obtain personal information, NPIs, signatures, or patient data.
