UAB Medicine is proud to announce that Chief Nursing Officer Terri Poe, DNP, RN, NE-BC, and Associate Vice President of Ambulatory Services Andrea Boohaker, CRNP, have been selected for the 2025-2026 Johnson & Johnson Nurse Innovation Fellowship. This is a highly competitive, one-year fellowship that promotes nurse-led innovation and leadership within health systems.

UAB Medicine nursing staff had a blast celebrating Nurses Week 2025 with a series of fun and meaningful events, including a scavenger hunt, continuing education sessions, an award ceremony, trivia and games, visits from our furry friends at Hand in Paw Animal-Assisted Therapy, and a glow party at Bartow Arena.

Dawn Bulgarella, MSHA, CPA, has led UAB Health System since 2022. As chief executive officer, she oversees a 16-hospital system that includes UAB Hospital, community hospitals throughout the state, and what is now known as UAB St. Vincent’s, the revered system of regional medical centers acquired by UAB in November 2024.

University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing student and UAB baseball player Tyler Waugh, says nursing, just like baseball, is a team sport. For the past four years, the student-athlete has successfully balanced a busy practice and game schedule with a demanding course load. As he prepares to graduate in May and work in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at UAB Hospital, Waugh is grateful for his time on the field and in the classroom.

Behind nearly every diagnosis, treatment plan, and surgical decision is a laboratory result. Lab data accounts for nearly 73% of all electronic medical record content at UAB Medicine. UAB Nursing would like to congratulate the latest nurse residents on completing their program. The nurse residency is a comprehensive, 12-month program for newly licensed nurses that helps them transition into more competent clinical practice.
