The UAB Cosmetic Dermatology & Laser Clinic offers the latest in surgical and non-surgical procedures designed to remove or minimize undesirable features of your body’s skin, to achieve a healthier, more youthful appearance. Some of our most popular and advanced treatments are described below.
Contouring & Fat Reduction
CoolSculpting® is the most advanced FDA-approved, non-surgical body contouring treatment. One of our board-certified dermatologists will work with you to design a treatment plan that best suits your case and preferences. Each of our CoolSculpting® specialists has successfully completed extensive training with our physicians and clinic staff, and we employ the most current and effective technology. Men and women across the world have successfully reduced unwanted fat with CoolSculpting®, and we are pleased to offer this service as part of our Fire & Ice Body Sculpting packages. CoolSculpting® is an ideal non-invasive alternative to liposuction.
Thermage® CPT™ is a non-surgical radiofrequency procedure that tightens the skin and generates new collagen. With a vibrating handpiece, pulsating energy, and cooling burst technology, this treatment ensures superior patient comfort.
Over 1 million Thermage® CPT™ procedures have been performed worldwide. Unlike a facelift, the Thermage® treatment allows us to non-surgically reduce signs of aging on the body such as mildly lax, wrinkled skin.
ThermiSmooth for the body is a gentle heating technique that uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen remodeling and tighten skin. This non-invasive, no-downtime procedure is a fabulous addition to CoolSculpting or Thermage® and can be performed on the same day.
Skin Tone & Texture
IPL Photorejuvenation: The UAB Cosmetic Dermatology & Laser Clinic uses the most effective light systems designed to address the tone and texture of the skin, reducing the brown pigmentation and redness that cause a dull, aged complexion on skin types up to Fitzpatrick Type 4. The IPL photofacial is the most popular facial laser treatment in the world and is commonly sought as a quick procedure that brightens the skin without taking time off of work. Many studies have proven the anti-aging benefits of IPL treatments, and those who have IPL treatments 1-2 times per year over a decade have healthier, more radiant skin and few cases of skin cancer compared to those who do not receive IPL treatments. Elos Sublative and Icon 1540nm Non-Ablative Laser Treatments: These highly effective light systems are designed to address the tone and texture of the skin by reducing wrinkles and improving dull complexions in all skin types. For those of Fitzpatrick skin types 5-6, typically we use the Elos Sublative device, and for Fitzpatrick skin types 4 and below we use the Icon 1540nm non-ablative laser.
- The Elos technology utilizes radiofrequency energy as well as light to reduce redness and brown spots, making it safer for darker skin types and more effective on the deeper pigment in the skin.
- The Icon technology uses light energy, but a contact cooling device pushes that energy into the deep epidermal layers of the skin to also produce collagen, retexturize the skin, and reduce pigment similar to the Elos system.
Photo Dynamic Therapy
Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) is a safe, non-surgical treatment used to improve dull, damaged skin, reduce active acne, and treat precancerous spots, known as actinic keratosis. PDT is known for removing many early pre-cancerous cells in the treatment area without leaving scars. It works on all skin types and also improves overall skin health and appearance in any area of the face or body.
We make use of the Nd:Yag 1064 and Alexandrite 755nm lasers to reduce the pigmentation in tattoos. With repeated treatments, the pigmented cells are broken apart, causing the tattoo to fade considerably and even disappear altogether.
