At 9 years old, Ruben Vuittonet Jr. learned origami from a young boy whose father was a marine in Okinawa, Japan. Little did he know, 50 years later, he would be using this hobby to give hope to people all around the world, including at UAB Medicine.

Oct. 15 is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, a health care observation recognizing one of the most emotionally difficult experiences that parents and medical professionals can face. There’s no way to make up for the loss of an infant, but hospitals can guide and support families throughout the grieving process. UAB Women & Infants Services provides support specialists as part of its comprehensive bereavement care for families.

UAB Medicine has been recognized by the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation (TCAF) as a Testicular Cancer Center of Excellence – the only one in the Southeast. This distinction is awarded to programs that provide complete, multispecialty care for testicular cancer.
