UAB Men’s Health Clinic offers many treatment options for common conditions

UAB Medicine combined many types of health care services to form the Men’s Health Clinic.

A team of physicians and surgeons from the UAB Department of Urology, along with nurse practitioners and urology nurses and technicians, treat some of the most common men’s medical conditions. Specialists offer clinical expertise backed by related research at UAB, clinical research trials, and advanced therapies and medications.

Conditions treated & services provided

  • Erectile dysfunction (ED): Also known as impotence, ED is the inability to get or keep an erection. Treatments can include medication, injections, and penile implants or pumps.
  • Low testosterone: Diagnosis involves looking at symptoms and using a blood test to measure testosterone level. Treatments include injections, gels or creams, pellets, and oral medications.
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): Commonly known as enlarged prostate. A number of treatments are used to shrink swelling and/or enlarge the outflow to improve urine flow.
  • Prostate cancer screening: Combines blood tests, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound (US) technologies and provides important advantages over other methods.
  • Male infertility: The inability to conceive a child after one year of unprotected intercourse affects 10-15% of couples. The condition should not be confused with ED. Male infertility can be treated with surgery, medication, and/or lifestyle changes.
  • Peyronie’s disease: Caused by scar tissue inside the penis, resulting in a bent rather than straight penis when erect. Treatment options include conservative therapies, injections, or surgery.
  • Urinary incontinence: Loss of bladder control is highly treatable through lifestyle changes, medications, and surgery.
  • Vasectomy reversal: Surgery to reverse a previous procedure that blocked sperm from reaching semen. Recovery requires about a week.
  • Urologic Cancer Survivorship Program: Patients in this program receive a care plan to address the side effects of cancer treatment, such as urinary incontinence or erectile dysfunction. We are dedicated to improving urinary health in patients with prostate, bladder, testicular, or kidney cancer.

The UAB Men’s Clinic has locations at The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital and at UAB Hospital-Highlands.
