UAB Medicine congratulates the 2022 recipients of the UAB Medicine Excellence Award, which is the highest honor available for staff. UAB Medicine has a rich history of recognizing excellence. Employees were considered for this award based upon skill set, knowledge, performance, leadership, teamwork, and demonstration of our Core Values.

UAB Medicine nurses have shown a commitment to our community’s well-being throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Their experiences on the front lines offer an important perspective, and we are pleased to share these stories.

The Nursing Communication HCAHPS performance domain is a key measure of delivering excellent care and achieving high levels of patient satisfaction. Congratulations to the units listed below on earning Level 5 in Nursing Communication during the past quarter! Your hard work and dedication directly contributed to the highest levels of satisfaction among UAB Medicine patients and visitors.

We are pleased to announce this month’s UAB Medicine DAISY Award, recognizing the extraordinary care and compassion that nurses provide for patients and families every day. Submissions and stories are reviewed each month, and then the winner is surprised at a special ceremony.

UAB Medicine nursing staff celebrated at a variety of events this May during Nurses Week 2022. The activities included kickoff parties, photo booths, an award ceremony, an employee picnic, and the big event: BHAM Nurses Night Out. It was all about recognizing our nurses for consistently giving their best to care for patients and their families. Take a look at all the fun we had!

Infertility is more common than people think and continues to be a growing problem among women. According to the Centers for Disease Control, about 19% of women with no prior births between the ages of 15 and 49 struggle with infertility.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit has been awarded the silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

Depending on what color scrubs you wear, you may already know that March 19 is Certified Nurses Day. This annual observance celebrates nurses worldwide who contribute to better patient outcomes through earning and maintaining advanced credentials in their specialty.

Passion is defined as having a strong and barely controllable emotion for someone or something, and for alumna Lindsey Harris, DNP, CRNP, FNP-BC (MSN 2011, DNP 2016), that passion is improving the nursing profession and helping current and future nurses reach their fullest potential.
