The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency at UAB Hospital is a one-year program designed to prepare its graduates to practice as independent pharmacy specialists in various ambulatory care areas. Its focus is to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective in providing advanced, pharmacy-centered ambulatory care services. In addition to preparing the resident for clinical pharmacist positions in ambulatory care and faculty areas, the successful completion of the program will also prepare the graduate to attain board certification in ambulatory care pharmacy (BCACP).
The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Program at UAB Hospital includes a combination of required learning experiences (rotations) and elective learning experiences tailored to the residents’ interest areas.
Orientation provides a general overview of the departmental organization, support units, and resident responsibilities. Benefits include health and accident insurance, holiday time off, and support to attend residency related professional conference(s).

Why did you choose UAB Medicine?
Having grown up in Alabama, UAB has always been synonymous with delivering cutting-edge care in a patient-centered environment. I was confident that this commitment to excellence would extend to the training provided to pharmacy residents. UAB’s comprehensive services encompass both acute and ambulatory care across a wide range of specialties, which particularly excited me due to the expanding role of pharmacists in ambulatory care settings. I believe that gaining proficiency across various specialties and primary care will equip me with the skills necessary to deliver exceptional patient care in any future practice setting.
When evaluating PGY2 ambulatory care programs, I sought an institution that would offer rigorous training within a challenging yet supportive environment. Upon stepping onto UAB’s campus, I immediately felt welcomed by the pharmacy staff. The dedication to patient care was evident, and I knew that it would push me to excel as a practitioner.
Our goal is to develop a highly skilled practitioner who will be successful in any setting they choose to practice after graduation.
