Travel Medicine Services

The UAB Travelers Health Clinic is the largest of its kind in the state of Alabama and houses the Department of Travel Medicine, which focuses on the needs of travelers, particularly those who travel outside the country. Our highly experienced and specialized physicians are here to assess and treat exotic diseases and provide you with the best preventive measures when traveling abroad, including all immunizations recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization. UAB is a widely recognized leader in tropical medicine and international health, so you can be assured you are receiving the best care for your travel needs.

Located within UAB Hospital-Highlands, UAB Travel Medicine is comprised of physicians specializing in infectious diseases and travel medicine. Each patient receives a highly individualized pre- and post-travel consultation with a specialized physician, while obtaining the most up-to-date pre-travel medical preparation. Additionally, UAB Medicine provides proper pre-travel vaccinations and medication for self-treatment while abroad, as well as detailed educational materials on staying healthy when far away from home. The clinic offers evaluations for patients who become ill during or after travel, and we maintain a full laboratory to detect and provide treatment for possible tropical diseases.

The UAB Travelers Health Clinic offers same-week appointments for imminent departures, and all vaccines are stocked on site for immediate administration at the time of the appointment, by a highly skilled staff that administers thousands of vaccines per year. Other practices or pharmacies may require return visits before vaccines are provided.
