Transilluminated Powered Phlebectomy, or the TriVex system, is a reliable and minimally invasive approach to the removal of varicose veins. The TriVex system requires only a few small incisions, through which the surgeon passes a light source that allows visualization of the veins. A scoping device is passed through a second small incision, through which the abnormal veins are removed. It is performed under general or light anesthesia, and patients are discharged the same day and typically require only a brief recovery.
The patented and clinically tested TriVex system offers several advantages over procedures such as vein stripping and ligation and stab avulsion phlebectomy, which are “blind” procedures that generally require multiple incisions, extended procedure times, and possibly repeat surgeries. The TriVex System allows accurate targeting of the vein using an irrigated illuminator, quick ablation using a powered resector, and visual confirmation of the vein’s removal. It typically involves less postoperative pain and better cosmetic results than other available methods, due to reducing incisions by 50-60%.
