Robotic Hysterectomy

Robotic hysterectomy is a procedure to remove the uterus (womb) using the da Vinci surgical robot. The surgeon’s hands do the work, using the robot as a tool that allows for more precise movements, a 360° range of motion, and a magnified, high-definition, 3D view of the operating site.

Robotic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive procedure, which means that only small incisions (cuts) are needed. This allows for faster recovery and less pain with fewer complications in most cases compared to traditional open surgery. Other benefits include minimal blood loss, little to no scarring, shorter hospital stays, and reduced risk of affecting nearby organs and tissue.

Patients may be eligible for robotic hysterectomy for noncancerous (benign) conditions such as adenomyosis, dysmenorrhea, and uterine fibroids. It also may be used to treat uterine, endometrial, ovarian, and cervical cancers. Most robotic hysterectomy patients are discharged home on the day of surgery.
