The specialists with the UAB Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery provide sensitive, professional care for women with incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and other pelvic floor disorders.
Half of all women are likely to face some incontinence in their lifetime, and about 10% will have surgery for incontinence and/or prolapse. Prolapse is a type of pelvic floor disorder where the bladder or vagina bulges, often due to weakened muscles in the pelvic floor. Fortunately, many of these conditions can be successfully treated.
Our physicians and surgeons offer a wide range of care for patients, including:
- Complete clinical evaluations
- Evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of urge urinary incontinence and overactive bladder, stress urinary incontinence, bowel incontinence, uterine prolapse, and other pelvic relaxation problems
- Fitting and placement of vaginal support device (pessary) for prolapse and stress urinary incontinence
- Surgery for pelvic organ prolapse and stress incontinence. In most cases, these procedures can be done using including minimally invasive, laparoscopic, and robotic techniques that require no incisions (cuts) or only a few small incisions and allow for faster recovery.
- Neurostimulation therapy for urge urinary incontinence, bowel incontinence, and voiding dysfunction that haven’t responded well to treatment
- Botox therapy for urge urinary incontinence that hasn’t responded well to treatment
