How can I give back to UAB by volunteering time or money?

Every gift of money or time can make a difference in UAB’s ability to prepare young people for their future, cure disease through research and patient care, enrich our lives through the arts, and make our state and our world a better place to live. You can make a monetary contribution online, by mail, in person, by payroll deduction online, and by electronic fund transfer. There are also many ways you can volunteer at UAB. Compassionate and responsible volunteers can help in the gift shops, waiting rooms, and inpatient units, but also with clowning, wayfinding, and other programs. UAB Hospital is among a growing number of hospitals that are committed to patient- and family-centered care in the planning, design, and delivery of medical services. To help with this, we created a Patient and Family Advisory Council and invite anyone to apply to be a member.

Patient- and Family-Centered Care (PFCC) Opportunities

UAB Hospital is among a growing number of hospitals that are committed to patient- and family-centered care in the planning, design, and delivery of medical services. Our goal is to listen to the voices of our patients and their families. We want our patients and families to help us provide the highest quality of care to every patient, every time. We know that our patients and families give another view into how we can change to become a more patient- and family-centered hospital.

We are on a journey, and we invite your help. Our Patient and Family Advisory Council gives us direction as we work to become even better. What our patients and families think is important to providing safe, high-quality, and compassionate care.

What does it mean to be a patient and family advisor?

We are looking for patients and family members who:

  • Have recently been cared for at UAB Hospital or UAB Hospital-Highlands
  • Want to give positive suggestions for improving the care at UAB
  • Respect different views and are willing to think about all types of patient care
  • Are willing to come to a council meeting every month
  • Listen and work well with others

If you are interested in volunteering for a volunteer position as a patient and family advisor, please visit uabmedicine.org/volunteer. You can also print this Patient and Family Advisors Application, complete it, and submit it to the name and address at the end of the application.

Thank you for your interest in helping us improve patient care at UAB!
