The UAB Vein Clinic has earned the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission’s (IAC) 10-year Milestone award. It recognizes a decade of continuous accreditation and highlights the clinic’s commitment to high-quality patient care and excellent outcomes.
The IAC is a nonprofit, nationally recognized accrediting organization founded in 1991 by medical professionals to create standards and advance patient care. Its awards honor medical facilities that, by maintaining accreditation, demonstrate a long-term commitment to high-quality patient care. The IAC recognizes facilities and clinics that have earned two consecutive three-year cycles of accreditation, and starting in 2025, the 10-Year Milestone award is given to those that have maintained accreditation for 10 consecutive years.
‘Stamp of approval’

Marc Passman, M.D., who directs the UAB Vein Program and UAB Vein Center, served on the original IAC board from 2012 to 2018, representing medical professionals in the vascular field. Dr. Passman says being an accredited facility serves as a “stamp of approval” that reflects stringent diagnostic and treatment guidelines.
“This accreditation sets a national standard for vein care,” Dr. Passman said. “UAB Vein Center’s 10 years of participation in this process has raised the bar for the delivery of high-quality care across the entire spectrum of vein disease.”
Complete care
Located at UAB Hospital-Highlands, the UAB Vein Clinic specializes in outpatient treatment of spider and varicose veins. Its team of highly trained vein disease experts provides state-of-the-art cosmetic, minimally invasive, and surgical treatments.
Along with IAC accreditation, the clinic has the distinction of being part of the larger Vein Program at UAB Hospital, where patients can receive the latest medical and surgical care for more complex vein issues.
Dr. Passman emphasizes the value of a comprehensive vein program. “The UAB Vein Program and Clinic are regionally and nationally recognized for treating a wide range of venous problems, from spider and varicose veins to more complex venous conditions.”
