Congratulations to the most recent winner: Christina Buchholz, RN! What makes Christina a DAISY winner?

“During a recent shift, I was covering for Christina during lunch when she called me on Vocera and asked me if she could have an extra 15 minutes as she had not had a chance to eat yet because she was doing compressions. It turns out she had just sat down in the staffing pool lounge with her lunch when she heard a scream for help outside. She ran outside to find two Environmental Services (EVS) employees – one on the ground with her friend, crying for help. Christina checked the individual and did not feel a pulse, so she started compressions immediately. She did five rounds of CPR by herself and managed to get a pulse back on her own before EMTs arrived.

After all that, she still came back from lunch on time, and then she assisted with de-escalating a combative psychiatric patient on the floor who was under the care of another nurse. She went back to check on the combative patient several times to make sure the patient was ok.

These actions touched my heart, and I tell her she’s a hero every time our paths cross. I would so love for there to be an opportunity for her dedication to be recognized.”
