Hogan Knox, MD, has joined the clinical faculty at Callahan Eye Hospital & Clinics. As an assistant professor and ophthalmologist with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Dr. Knox recently completed his fellowship in glaucoma but also sees patients for cataract services and general ophthalmology.

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommends that people avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, to help prevent the spread of germs from surfaces during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chuck Dean is one of the nearly 76,000 patients seen in the last year by UAB Callahan Eye Hospital & Clinics. He needs regular eye exams, but like many patients, Dean has concerns about seeking medical and vision care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

UAB eMedicine now offers online video visits, which allow patients to speak with their UAB Medicine doctor remotely through their smart device or computer, for both routine and urgent care.

Now that elective procedures, organ transplants, and surgeries are being performed again, UAB Medicine saw the need for more intensive care unit space for non-COVID 19 patients. In response, the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) provider team and the Blood and Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy (BMT) nursing staff worked together to open a temporary 12-bed ICU.
