The UAB Heart and Vascular Clinic is a full-service clinic providing primary cardiology services “close to home.” The clinic is staffed with experienced, knowledgeable UAB cardiologists and staff who provide primary cardiac care and follow-up for:

  • Coronary artery disease
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Rhythm disturbances
  • Diseased valves
  • Other heart & vessel diseases

Patients who require pacemakers, surgery, or advanced treatments can receive referrals to specialists at UAB Hospital and The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital in UAB’s Medical Center District.

Diagnostic capabilities at the clinic include:

  • Transthoracic echocardiography , which uses sounds waves to check heart anatomy and function
  • Ultrasound studies
    • carotid
    • renal
    • aortic
    • lower extremity arterial
    • lower extremity venous
  • Electrocardiograms (EKGs)
  • Nuclear cardiac imaging to assess circulation and heart function
  • 24-48-hour holter monitoring to record heart rates and rhythms
  • 30-day event monitoring to record heart rates and rhythms
  • Stress tests
  • Basic lab tests

Accreditations
The UAB Heart and Vascular Clinic echocardiography lab is nationally accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). The nuclear lab is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Referral policy 
For physicians referring to our facility for testing, a signed clinic order form is required in order to schedule an exam.

Cancellation policy
Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance of appointment time.

What to Bring with You
Please bring your insurance card, a photo ID, bottles of any prescription and over-the counter medications, vitamins, and dietary supplements you are currently taking, as well as any pertinent medical information from other health care providers.

Special Instructions
Please arrive 15 minutes before a new-patient appointment to allow for completion of registration paperwork.

Payment Information
Your insurance co-pay is expected at the time of your visit. If you are a private-pay patient, full payment is expected upon completion of your appointment. Financial counselors are available to all patients to discuss any problems or special circumstances. It is our policy to file claims with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medicare, Medicaid, UAB Viva and Viva Health, as well as most other insurance providers. When you call for an appointment, please verify your coverage.

Labs/Test Results
Please allow 5 days from the time of any lab or other tests to be completely processed. You will be notified of any normal test results by telephone or you will receive a phone number for our ClientTell services, where you can call and receive your results. Any important abnormal lab or test values will be relayed to you by your physician or nurse as soon as the results are obtained, usually within 48 hours.
