UAB Family Medicine East provides a wide range of primary care health services for the entire family. We rely on a complete approach to medicine, which means we consider the whole person rather than focusing only on a specific problem. We also encourage patients to play an active role in their health care and to take responsibility for their health by building relationships with our physicians, nurses, and staff.

- Treatment of minor injuries
- Drainage of simple abscesses (pus-filled areas)
- Treatment of minor wounds and cuts
What to bring with you
When you come to your appointment, please bring your insurance card, a photo ID, bottles of any prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and dietary supplements that you are currently taking, and any important medical information from other health care providers.
Insurance & payment
Your insurance copay is expected at the time of your visit. It is our policy to file insurance claims with BlueCross and BlueShield, Medicare, Medicaid, UAB VIVA, and VIVA Health, as well as most other insurance providers. When you call for an appointment, we will verify your coverage.
Lab & test results
You will be notified of any normal test results either by telephone, mail, or at your next office visit. Any significant abnormal lab or test values will be communicated to you by your physician as soon as the results are obtained. Patients who have signed up for the myUABMedicine Patient Portal may view results of select lab work and other tests through their myUABMedicine account.
Prescriptions
To obtain refills for any medications prescribed by this clinic, please call the office at 659-997-9700. Please have your pharmacy name and telephone number available to provide to our staff. Please allow up to 72 hours for routine prescriptions to be filled. We suggest calling your pharmacy prior to pickup to make sure your medication is ready. Patients who have signed up for the myUABMedicine Patient Portal may request prescription refills through their myUABMedicine account.
myUABMedicine Patient Portal
myUABMedicine is a free online patient portal for UAB Medicine patients that offers secure online access to your personal health information and an easy way to communicate with your UAB Medicine providers. Signing up is easy. To learn more about the myUABMedicine Patient Portal and request an invitation to sign up, please visit uabmedicine.org/me.
Appointments/cancellations
To schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment, please call 659-997-9700. We appreciate you notifying us of cancellations at least 24 hours in advance.
New patients
Please arrive 30 minutes before a new patient appointment to allow time for completing registration paperwork.
After hours and emergencies
If you need to reach a physician after hours, please call 205-934-3411 and ask for the physician on call. If this is a true medical emergency, please dial 911 for immediate assistance. For after-hours and weekend urgent care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, UAB Medicine offers an Urgent Care Clinic in downtown Birmingham. Vaccinations
Please note that our clinic follows the Alabama Department of Health’s required vaccine schedule as part of the standard care for our pediatric patients. This helps ensure the safety and well-being of all of our patients and their family members, and therefore it is a REQUIRED part of the patient and physician relationship. The COVID-19 vaccination is not required to receive care at our clinic.
