Important Updates for UAB In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Patients

Important Update, March 6, 2024

Valued UAB IVF Patients,

The UAB Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility is excited to announce that the Alabama Legislature and Governor Kay Ivey have passed and signed legislation that provides some protections and will therefore allow UAB to restart in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments. We appreciate the swift action they took to allow us to restart this important service.

We are now working to get patients scheduled/rescheduled for IVF treatment as soon as possible.

  • If you had an appointment canceled or postponed, we will reach out to you to reschedule; please be as responsive as possible to this outreach so we can get you scheduled as soon as possible.
  • Patients whose health circumstances/phase of treatment requires greater urgency will be scheduled first.
  • We will work as swiftly as possible to get all patients’ treatment resumed as soon as possible; we kindly ask for your patience and understanding as we work through that process.

As always, we are committed to you and your families and to providing you with the best health care options. We appreciate you very much. If you are a current patient and have questions, please call 205-996-3130 or send a message through your patient portal account.

UAB experts worked in late February and early March to educate lawmakers about the realities of IVF care, and we will continue to assess developments and advocate for protections for IVF patients and providers.
