For referrals or inpatient transfers, please call UAB MIST (Medical Information Services via Telephone) at 1-800-UAB-MIST (1-800-822-6478) or email mist@uabmc.edu. UAB MIST is a toll-free, 24-hour service that connects physicians anywhere in the country with UAB Medicine specialists.
Program Highlights
In a milestone for UAB Medicine, transplant surgeons have performed the institution’s first robotic kidney transplant surgery, marking a major step in expanding minimally invasive options for transplant recipients.
UAB Medicine has joined the National Kidney Registry, connecting Alabama patients to a nationwide network responsible for nearly one-third of all living-donor kidney transplants in the United States.
As kidney transplant wait times continue to grow nationwide, the University of Alabama at Birmingham is expanding access to life-sustaining transplants. We partnered with 34 Lives to provide normothermic perfusion, an advanced organ preservation technology shown to improve organ utilization and early transplant outcomes.
The UAB Department of Surgery is honored to welcome Jacqueline Garonzik Wang, M.D., Ph.D., as director of the Division of Transplantation and co-director of the Comprehensive Transplant Institute.
