UAB social worker honored as a Legacy of Laura Healthcare Hero

Christina Humphrey, LMSW

Christina Humphrey, LMSW, a UAB social worker who serves gynecologic oncology patients, has been named a Legacy of Laura Healthcare Hero for 2024. This award is presented annually by the Laura Crandall Brown Foundation to a health care professional who fosters hope, compassion, positivity, and strength among patients with gynecologic cancer and survivors.

A licensed master social worker (LMSW) at the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, Humphrey has extensive experience in helping those diagnosed with gynecologic cancer overcome the challenges they often face during treatment and recovery. Among other responsibilities, she makes sure that patients have access to the transportation, financial, and mental health resources needed to cope with their diagnosis and maintain their treatment schedule. Humphrey also manages the Patient Assistance Fund for the UAB Division of Gynecologic Oncology.

Humphrey often works directly with the Laura Crandall Brown Foundation, a nonprofit organization that promotes awareness of gynecologic cancer and helps support those affected by it. They work together to coordinate patient assistance based on changing needs.

The foundation honored Humphrey on March 2 at its Taste of Teal Gala fundraiser, where video tributes were presented for each honoree. Click here to see those videos.
