Becker’s Healthcare once again included UAB Hospital among the “100 Great Hospitals in America”. This annual list recognizes institutions that deliver exceptional patient care, prioritize safety, and drive innovation through research, education, and continual improvement.
To help develop the list, a Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team reviews nominations and conducts extensive research. Organizations do not pay to be included.
Becker’s listed several factors used in choosing UAB Hospital, some of which are highlighted below:
- UAB Hospital is preparing to roll out the Epic electronic health record (EHR) systemwide in early 2027, to unify patient records and streamline care across its locations
- The new UAB Rehabilitation Pavilion for inpatient care
- A 66,000-square-foot-plus expansion of the Emergency Department, adding 59 exam rooms
- Nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report in rheumatology; ear, nose, and throat (ENT) care; obstetrics and gynecology; and neurology/neurosurgery
- Extended its structural heart and cardiovascular services to UAB Medical West, where nearly 800 interventional heart cases have been completed
- Earned its sixth consecutive Magnet designation for nursing excellence
- Home to one of the nation’s most active organ transplant centers, performing heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, and multi-organ transplants, including transplants across blood types and HIV-positive to HIV-positive procedures
- Ranked the best hospital in Alabama for 11 consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report
UAB Hospital CEO Brenda Carlisle says the recognition reflects the hospital’s expertise and commitment to patients.
“Being named one of 100 Great Hospitals in America is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the people behind the excellence of UAB Hospital,” Carlisle said. “Every day, our teams bring exceptional expertise, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to our patients. This recognition affirms the impact of the work they do to provide life-changing care to the communities we serve.”
