UAB Hospital has received a 2023 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ from Healthgrades, which recognizes hospitals that provide an overall positive patient experience during hospital stays. UAB Hospital was one of 445 U.S. hospitals recognized and one of only three in Alabama.
Using data collected from patient surveys, Healthgrades evaluates the patient experience based on 10 measures to identify hospitals that displayed a commitment to prioritizing positive patient experiences. Hospitals in the top 15% with the highest overall patient experience scores are recognized with Outstanding Patient Experience Awards.
The methodology uses Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient survey data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. HCAHPS survey questions focus on doctor and nurse communication, hospital cleanliness and noise levels, and medication and post-discharge care instructions. The questionnaire offers a view of a hospital’s commitment to quality patient care through the lens of a patient.
“We are proud that we have been recognized again for our commitment to providing an outstanding patient experience every day to every patient,” says UAB Hospital CEO Brenda Carlisle. “That commitment is part of our UAB Medicine culture and permeates our organization, from clinicians and care teams to areas such as maintenance, Environmental Services, and the business office. Each of our employees plays a part in this recognition for a job well done.”
