Becker’s Hospital Review has recognized UAB Medicine Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) John Petrov on its 2025 list of “CHROs to Know”. This annual list identifies HR leaders who play a key role in shaping the workforce strategies that drive hospital and health system successes, with responsibilities ranging from recruitment and retention to compensation, benefits, and professional development.
Petrov came to UAB Medicine in January 2024. He oversees HR functions for UAB Health System and our more than 37,000 employees. Before joining UAB Medicine, he was senior vice president and CHRO for Richmond, Va.-based Virginia Commonwealth University Health. He has also held HR leadership positions at several other health care systems, including Guthrie in Sayre, Penn., and CHI Saint Joseph Health in Kentucky.
Since joining UAB Medicine, Petrov has played a critical role in strengthening the HR team and supporting employees through a period of significant change, including the acquisition of the Ascension St. Vincent’s Health System.
