
UAB Medicine Vice President of Human Resources Julie Makosky was honored with a 2025 HR Impact Award by the Birmingham Business Journal (BBJ). This annual recognition celebrates human resources (HR) professionals across the region who have made significant contributions to their organizations through innovation, leadership, and dedication to the people they serve.
Makosky has more than 25 years of HR leadership experience, including nearly 21 years at UAB Medicine. She was named vice president of Human Resources in 2024, following two decades of service as an associate vice president. In her current role, she oversees HR strategy and operations across one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, with a focus on workforce development, engagement, and organizational effectiveness.
Before joining UAB Medicine, Makosky served in HR leadership roles at St. Vincent’s and The Reynolds and Reynolds Company, giving her a broad foundation in both health care and corporate HR. She holds a Bachelor of Science in business with a concentration in HR from UAB and is an SHRM-Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
Makosky is one of just 15 professionals across numerous industries selected for this year’s awards. Honorees were chosen for their workplace impact, strategic leadership, and commitment to strengthening the HR profession.
