
We are pleased to announce that Nathaniel H. Robin, M.D., professor in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Department of Genetics, has been appointed director of Clinical Genetics and Genomics Services at UAB Medicine.
Effective Jan. 1, 2025, Dr. Robin’s appointment marks a significant step forward in advancing UAB Medicine’s genomic medicine initiatives. With his extensive experience and deep expertise in this fast-growing field, he will lead the integration and expansion of genomic services across UAB Medicine, working to enhance patient care through the use of cutting-edge genetic technologies.
In this critical leadership role, Dr. Robin will oversee the clinical genetics team, guide the development of system wide genomic strategies, and champion the use of genomics in routine patient care. Additionally, he will support the development of educational initiatives, foster collaboration across UAB Medicine’s various departments, and advocate for key policy changes to improve access to genetic services on a broader scale.
Key responsibilities in Dr. Robin’s new role include:
- Leading the clinical genetics team and expanding the workforce to enhance capacity and expertise.
- Collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of genomic services across clinical care pathways.
- Providing educational leadership to both genetics and non-genetics clinicians, to further the incorporation of genomics into clinical practice.
- Supporting translational research and helping ensure that UAB Medicine remains at the forefront of genomics and precision medicine.
Dr. Robin will collaborate with Associate Dean of Genomics Nita Limdi, PharmD, Ph.D., MSPH, and Chair of the Department of Genetics Anindya Dutta, M.D., Ph.D., to:
- Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive, systemwide strategy to expand access to genomic evaluation, testing, and therapeutics across identified clinical disciplines.
- Ensure the seamless integration of genomics into clinical care by building a team focused on developing interdisciplinary collaboration in clinical practice and research.
- Develop a competitive compensation plan that supports the continued recruitment and retention of top-tier clinical genetics faculty.
