UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham
The UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham hospital and emergency room provide testing, diagnosis, treatment, and care for the full range of health needs, both medical and surgical.
St. Vincent’s Birmingham was founded in 1898 by the Daughters of Charity as a hospital dedicated to spiritually centered, whole-body care. It was created to sustain and improve the health of the community as well as individual patients.
Today, our 409-bed acute care facility features all private rooms and provides a wide range of personalized care services close to home. Our specialties range from cardiology and oncology to women’s and children’s services, orthopaedics/sports medicine, and more. We also have a state-of-the-art robotic surgery program and the state’s first Heart Valve Clinic.

The UAB St. Vincent’s East Hospital and emergency room provide personalized care for your everyday and emergency health needs. The hospital was founded in 1946 as East End Memorial Hospital and later became Medical Center East. We’ve been in our current location since 1985.

UAB Medical West
UAB Medical West has proudly served the communities of west Jefferson County since 1964. It is an acute care hospital with 12 health centers located throughout the area, including Bessemer, Hueytown, Vance, Tannehill, and Hoover. UAB Medical West offers a wide range of diagnostic, surgical, medical, and emergency services. These include intensive care, women’s health, telemetry, geriatric psychiatry, inpatient rehabilitation, sleep medicine, cardiac rehabilitation, and advanced wound care.
Our brand new, state-of-the-art hospital opened in August 2024. This nine-story hospital has 200 beds and features a new surgical and endoscopy suite, robotic surgery technology and 12 operating rooms, the most advanced imaging technology, and intensive care beds.
This facility is designed around nature, to promote an environment of wellness and healing. Nestled in the trees and overlooking a beautiful pond with walking trails, the building has floor-to-ceiling windows in patient rooms that help patients enjoy a calmer, more relaxing stay.
Know before you go
- The full-service cafeteria at UAB Medical West is located on the first floorand is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. for breakfast, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch, and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for dinner. It is open to relatives, guests, visitors, and employees. The cafeteria accepts cash, debit cards, and credit cards.
- A coffee shop is conveniently located on the second floor.
- The Smart Market vending area is located at the cafeteria entrance and offers 24/7 vending options. Vending machines are also located in the emergency waiting room.
