What is the employee survey?

The Employee & Physician Survey helps us assess your workplace experiences and provides an opportunity to share your feedback. The responses collected through this survey help drive organizational change and are crucial to understanding how we can continue making UAB Medicine a great place to work.

When can I take it?

This survey is open from Tuesday, Sept. 15, through the end of the day on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026. It should take about 15 minutes to complete. Your supervisor can allocate time for you to take the survey.

Hear from leaders across our organization about why they participated in prior surveys, why your voice has value, and how they use employee feedback to take action.

Who can take it?

Employees and physicians hired on or before July 27, 2026, are eligible to take this voluntary survey. This includes employees and physicians of:

  • UAB Hospital/LLC
  • UA Health Services Foundation
  • UAB Health System
  • UAB St. Vincent’s
  • UAB Heersink School of Medicine Workgroup C and clinical faculty
  • UAB Medical West
  • Cooper Green Mercy Health Services

Eligible employee statuses include full-time, part-time, PRN, 04 status employees, and direct temporary employment categories (i.e. TAP).

How can I take it?

The survey is web-based and can be taken on any computer or mobile device connected to the Internet. Eligible participants will receive their own unique survey link in an email on Sept. 15 from uabmedicine@express.sea1.Medallia.com. Click here to see a screenshot (coming soon) of an example survey invitation email from 2025. The survey should only be accessed by the intended recipient, and the email should not be forwarded or shared with anyone.

The survey participation rate as of September 18, 2026, is 19%.
Total survey participation rate.
Why should I take the survey?
  1. It’s confidential and voluntary, and it provides an opportunity to provide candid feedback. We work in partnership with Medallia, an independent professional services company, to administer the survey. All survey responses are confidential. Survey responses from workgroups smaller than five people are rolled up and included only at a larger group or organizational level.
  2. Your voice initiates organizational change. Survey results bring meaningful change to our organization, because your voice and feedback matter. Based on feedback received previously, we made improvements and implemented new policies.
Did you know that completing the survey could lead to earning Applause points?

Participants will be eligible to enter into a drawing for points on the Applause platform, where the points can be redeemed for merchandise and other rewards. Participation in the drawing is voluntary, and winners will be selected at random by Medallia, which will notify UAB Medicine of the winners. Please note that the drawing and winners will be separated from survey feedback, to maintain confidentiality.

Complete the survey in the first seven days for a chance to win 50 points, which will be given to 70 participants. Additionally, every employee who completes the survey before it closes will be entered into a different drawing for 25 points, which will be given to 200 participants. After the close of the survey, all drawings will be performed and winners will be notified.

How will the results be communicated to me?

Based on your feedback, we will take action, continue to improve, and track our progress in the areas most important to you and other employees and physicians. You can expect to hear from your manager about the results for your team. You also will hear from senior leaders about company-wide strengths and opportunities identified through the feedback we receive.

Why does UAB Medicine care about my engagement?

Employee and physician engagement is an outcome of the experiences that employees and physicians have on the job, meaning that your interactions and experiences with the organization will impact the degree to which you are engaged. We define engagement as emotional connections with the work, organization, clients, and communities we serve – connections that make you feel excitement, dedication, and inspiration. Engagement impacts many things, including professional development, well-being, work-life balance, quality of care, organizational goals, key business outcomes, and workforce turnover.

Do you have a trusted workplace friend?

A new question was added to the Employee & Physician Survey to help leaders understand the strength of employee connections. A trusted workplace friend is not necessarily someone you socialize with outside of work. Rather, the focus is on trust, support, and connection with a coworker. It’s someone who can be relied on day to day, communicated openly with, safely turned to with questions or concerns, and who genuinely cares about your well-being.
