Emmi Programs at UAB Medicine

Meet Emmi®
Sometimes our patients have questions that they don’t realize are important, or they may forget to ask them during their doctor’s visit. Maybe they were too embarrassed to ask. Emmi programs answer frequently asked questions, and you can view them online from any computer or Internet device. You can even share Emmi programs with family and friends.

What is Emmi?
Emmi is a web-based program that takes complex medical information and explains it in a way that is easy to understand. Using animation and a soothing female voice, Emmi helps you prepare for an upcoming procedure, learn more about certain treatments, or manage a chronic condition.

Emmi programs at UAB Medicine

We believe that you, the patient, are the most important member of your health care team. That’s why we offer these free programs, which provide helpful details about:

  • Your condition
  • Why your doctor has recommended surgery
  • What to expect before surgery
  • An overview of your procedure
  • What to expect after surgery
  • Risks and benefits
  • Treatment alternatives

Think of Emmi as a friend – a teacher who listens and then provides information, guidance, and coping strategies.

How does it work?
Each Emmi program takes about 20 minutes to watch. You can view them as many times as you like. As you watch, you may wish to jot down notes and questions that you can bring to your next appointment.
