UAB Weight Loss Medicine | Apples on a table with a weight behind them

More than two in three adults living in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Being overweight increases the risk of many health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, sleep apnea, gastro-esophageal reflux (heartburn), osteoarthritis, urinary leakage, certain cancers and even death. No matter your weight loss goals, UAB Weight Loss Medicine can help you lose weight and enjoy a healthier life.

We understand that a “one size fits all” approach does not work for weight loss that lasts. Our Weight Loss Medicine program’s team of physicians, registered dietitians, behaviorists, exercise trainers and other health professionals will tailor a weight loss plan for you and guide you in getting the right services to meet your individual needs and circumstances. We understand that weight loss and weight maintenance are hard and that learning the tools, rather than finding a “quick-fix”, will lead to a healthier you.

What Distinguishes UAB Weight Loss Medicine?
Unlike many weight management programs or “diets”, as a participant in UAB Weight Loss Medicine, you will receive a comprehensive evaluation by a UAB Weight Loss Medicine physician who will recommend an individualized weight loss plan tailored to your needs and preferences. The physician will manage your weight loss treatment with team members and other UAB specialists, if needed.

Although the clinic does not provide primary care, the Weight Loss Medicine physicians will work with you and your regular physician(s). Our goal is to optimize your health while working to better manage and prevent medical conditions caused or affected by being overweight or obese. As a university medical center, UAB offers a full range of specialty services to meet your specific weight loss and healthcare needs with the latest evidence-based treatments and programs.
