Community is important to UAB Medicine. We are a vibrant professional community spanning 80+ city blocks, encompassing more than 250 buildings, including a world-renowned academic medical center and thriving undergraduate and graduate college campus. But our community extends past the “campus limits” of UAB into the city of Birmingham, surrounding cities and state. We are part of the communities where our patients live and our medical staff is trained.

While a number of our employees’ charitable acts will be covered in the news, you will never hear about many other acts of kindness, such as a UAB patient care unit providing a warm coat for a patient.
Having a well-trained workforce is one major ingredient of every business’s success, and UAB Medicine is no exception. Employees come to UAB with various levels of experience and education. They then begin their UAB training in a general orientation class, and may go through extensive departmental training depending upon their job responsibilities.

A range of training options from computer classes to management courses are complimentary for staff and free continuing education is available for patient care givers. Because the medical center shares a campus with a thriving undergraduate and graduate university employees will find continuing their formal education, if they so choose, to be convenient.
