Mandatory Screening, Vaccination, and Testing Policies
As a world-class medical center operating as part of a public education and research university, UAB Medicine is dedicated to the preservation of health and prevention of disease. UAB Medicine desires to provide a safe and healthy work environment and to promote the health and well being of its employees, visitors and patients.
Seasonal Flu Vaccination Policy
All UAB Medicine employees are required to receive the flu vaccine each year prior to December 15. The flu vaccine will be offered as part of the health screening process for all new employees. Those hired during the flu season (October 1 - March 31) are required to receive the flu vaccine. If the individual has had the flu vaccine, documentation will be required to update our records for compliance. Failure to comply will result in an initial, unpaid suspension from work up to five (5) calendar days. Failure to obtain the vaccine during the five (5) day suspension will be considered voluntary resignation of employment, and clinical faculty will lose their privileges.
Tuberculosis (TB) Screening
Certain UAB Medicine employees are subject to pre-employment and annual Tuberculosis (TB) screenings.
Additional Tests & Screenings
For certain positions, employees are subject to additional screenings including Respirator FIT Testing (pre-employment, annually), Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support (pre-employment, every two years), and other tests or screenings as required.
