Office of Advanced Practice Providers
UAB Medicine is unique in that our organizational structure includes a dedicated leader to advocate for APPs, help grow service lines and individual practices, provide oversight and supervision of scope of practice, and support recruitment, quality, credentialing, and privileging.

Advanced Practice Provider Executive Council
We recognize the value that APPs provide and have a formal structure in place to advocate for and support you. We also come together to discuss issues, identify goals, and work toward positive change using our combined knowledge and experience, drawing upon the latest evidence-based research.

Continuing Education
We prioritize the ongoing education of our APPs and provide a CME allowance. You'll have opportunities for new experiences that range from family medicine to acute care, CEUs focused on a wide variety of topics, and reimbursement for specialty certifications and advanced degrees.

Tuition Assistance & Loan Forgiveness
UAB Medicine employees receive 100% tuition assistance at UAB through our Educational Assistance Program, while spouses and dependents receive 50% assistance at the undergraduate level. We are also an eligible employer under the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program for qualifying educational loans.

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

As a leading academic medical center, UAB Medicine offers CRNAs the opportunity to challenge their skills across a full range of clinical specialties and experience a wide variety of cases, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. A team of over 140 CRNAs manages 50,000+ cases annually at more than 100 anesthetizing locations across our medical campus. From cancer and transplantation to trauma and same-day surgery, our CRNAs work alongside world-renowned providers and a host of other dedicated team members to deliver on our mission of providing compassionate, high-quality care.

COLLABORATION

As a CRNA at UAB, you will collaborate as a member of an anesthesia care team to plan and administer competent, compassionate, and patient-centered anesthesia services. Executing a successful shared mission and vision with all members of the anesthesia care team requires teamwork, professionalism, mutual respect, and communication among all members of the care team. This requires teamwork, professionalism, respect, and continual communication between CRNAs and providers.

Outside of the operating room, CRNAs serve on interdisciplinary committees and lead projects designed to improve quality and deliver safer, more cost-effective care. They work closely with UAB's multiple simulation labs to develop training, facilitate research, and implement positive change. They also instruct and train student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs).

Work/Life Balance
Our large team affords flexibility in scheduling that contributes to your need for work/life balance. We offer shifts of 8, 10, and 12 hours, with minimal on-call time. Our scheduling app makes it easy to self-schedule, request time off, and swap shifts if needed.

Continuing Education
Our CRNAs have access to weekly departmental CEUs on a wide variety of topics, as well as reimbursement, travel stipends, and professional leave for conferences and other learning opportunities.


Perfusionist

Our large, vibrant, and dynamic team is staffed by perfusionists with diverse backgrounds and experience levels. Our certified perfusionists are involved in cardiovascular perfusion operations for a variety of surgical and therapeutic procedures, including routine and complex coronary bypass, heart and lung transplantation, VAD implantation, and TAVR. Perfusionists at UAB Medicine also work alongside an expanding team of ECMO specialists who provide around-the-clock, in-house coverage for our ECMO program.
