UAB Medicine Earns Becker’s ‘150 Great Places To Work’

The honor encompasses UAB Hospital, UAB School of Medicine, the UA Health Services Foundation, and Callahan Eye Hospital. Becker’s notes that UAB Medicine recently received the American Heart Association Gold Level Fit-Friendly Award and was named in 2013 as Birmingham Business Journal's Healthiest Employer, a distinction it earned for the second consecutive year.

In choosing UAB Medicine, Becker’s wrote, “UAB employees have access to fresh produce on the job through the on-site Farm Stand, available March through November. A concierge service is available to employees for dry cleaning, car washes, oil changes, gift wrapping, pet sitting, and more. Employees experiencing a financial crisis or other emergency also have access to the UAB Benevolent Fund Emergency Assistance Program.”

Becker’s also highlighted UAB Medicine’s tobacco-free hiring policy, which was implemented in mid-2013.

UAB Health System CEO Will Ferniany, PhD, said the honor reflects the efforts by UAB Medicine leaders to listen to the needs of faculty and staff and then act on those needs.

“The feedback we gather from our annual Employee Engagement Survey is put to good use, so we are proud to see that our efforts have been recognized by Becker’s,” Ferniany says. “I think most of us would agree that UAB Medicine is a great place to work, but that’s not to say that we can’t and won’t continue to make improvements to keep us on that list in the years to come.”
