Start Your Next-Level Career

As a respiratory therapist (RT) at UAB Medicine, you’ll work alongside some of the brightest minds in medicine as you deliver the latest evidence-based treatments. You'll have the option of exclusively serving either adult or neonatal patients. When you practice in the adult inpatient or outpatient environments, your case mix can include adult cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, heart and lung transplantation, interstitial lung disease, and much more. When you practice in the neonatal environment, you can treat some of the sickest babies in our region.

Job Profile
At UAB Medicine, our RTs go beyond simply monitoring ventilators and administering breathing treatments. As a member of our team, you’ll autonomously manage ventilator protocols, using your skills to meet patient needs while weaning them off of mechanical respiratory support. Also, our RTs are respected members of the interdisciplinary team. They are often asked to participate in rounds and are actively involved in the decision-making process for patient care.

Over 200 respiratory therapists work throughout UAB Medicine, which is home to our Level 1 Trauma Center and a Level IV Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Our respiratory therapists are trained to serve our adult patient population in many locations, including our emergency departments, nine specialty intensive care units, trauma units, Pulmonary Function Lab, and Critical Care Transport service. Our neonatal patient population is treated in the Continuing Care Nursery and Level IV Regional Neonatal ICU. This diverse range of opportunities allows you to further your career while developing relationships with many of our team members.
