Soft Tissue Fillers
Soft tissue fillers are substances injected into the skin as a cosmetic procedure to add volume and fullness that is lost naturally in the aging process or through injury. Fillers can plump skin and reduce lines around the brow, eyes, cheeks, nose, mouth, and jaw line. It softens and smooths facial creases, elevates and fills in deep folds and shallow contours, and improves the appearance of facial scars and imperfections (including acne scars). Many types of fillers can be used, including hyaluronic acid (Juvederm, Restylane gels), a natural substance found in the skin; calcium hydroxyapatite (Radiesse), which stimulates the skin's own natural collagen to grow; microsphere-enhanced collagen (Artifill); and Sculptra, new type of facial injectable made from poly-L-lactic acid. A doctor can determine the best filler for patients based on their individual skin needs. The injection of soft tissue fillers is a minimally invasive procedure.
