Gynecologic Cancer Services
The UAB Division of Gynecologic Oncology is a multi-specialty group of physicians, nurses, and consultants who provide comprehensive and compassionate care in treating women’s cancers. Each year, UAB treats more than 2,500 women battling cancer.
As part of the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, the Division of Gynecologic Oncology assists women with the physical and emotional challenges associated with gynecologic cancer. Our experts design customized treatment plans for each patient’s individual needs and use the latest technology to screen for and treat all types of women’s reproductive cancers. Our research team is dedicated to improving treatments and ultimately finding a cure for these cancers.
We offer several unique services not available at most other medical centers. The UAB Sexual Health and Cancer Clinic provides services to female patients either going through cancer treatment or with a history of breast or gynecologic cancer. The clinic offers treatment for sexual dysfunction concerns connected to your cancer diagnosis and treatment, along with counseling, education, and care for related issues.
In addition, UAB Medicine developed a special program to treat gynecological carcinosarcoma (GCS), also known as MMMT (malignant mixed Müllerian tumor). This is a rare and aggressive cancer found primarily in the ovaries and uterus that most commonly occurs in post-menopausal women. As part of our GCS program, UAB is involved in research and clinical trials designed to better understand GCS and improve the survival rate for patients.
