What is a Patient and Family Advisor?

Question:

What is a Patient and Family Advisor?

Answer:

Patient and Family Advisors are volunteers who recently have been cared for at UAB Medicine or are loved ones of someone who has. These community-minded individuals make up the UAB Medicine Patient and Family Advisory Council, which meets monthly to provide valuable direction in the planning, design, and delivery of health care. We are dedicated to listening to the voice of our patients and families. Their opinions help us provide the highest quality of care to every patient, every time. We encourage you to consider serving on our Patient- and Family-Centered Care Advisory Council and sharing your thoughts and perspective on how we can change and improve patient care.

UAB Medicine is a sponsor of the Institute for Patient and Family Centered Care (ipfcc.org) and works with other organizations across the country toward the shared goal of becoming more patient- and family-centered medical centers.
