UAB Connections Program Supports Those with Vision Impairment
UAB Connections is an innovative support group that provides educational, social, and recreational activities for adults with various eye diseases, including glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, and total blindness.
Its programs encourage group members to be more active and less isolated from the community, while also allowing family members and close friends to enjoy a hands-on activity with their visually impaired loved one.
UAB Connections holds regular group meetings at UAB Callahan Eye Hospital and plans recreational activities in the community. Meeting topics include research updates, coping skills, environmental adaptation strategies, stress management, and tips for more effectively talking to your doctor and communicating with others about your vision impairment.
The UAB Connections program is managed by Laura Dreer, PhD, director of Psychological & Neuropsychology Clinical Research Services. To learn how you can participate in or support UAB Connections, please call (205) 488-0778.
