Online Education Videos Improve Experience for Transplant Patients and Referring Physicians
Patient Education Videos
To help our patients at every stage of the transplant process, the UAB Comprehensive Transplant Institute created a series of organ-specific educational videos that cover a wide range of topics relevant to both pre- and post-transplant patients.
The videos were especially helpful during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, when in-person educational classes were suspended. Also, providing this information directly through videos and in advance of the evaluation visit – rather than in a class setting – allows patients to refer back to them as needed and share the videos with family and friends, and it improves the patient experience by reducing time spent in clinic. We believe that this option also can make it easier for referring physicians to share information with their patients on what to expect in their transplant journey.
Our library of kidney-related education videos is available at uabmedicine.org/kidneytransplanteducation. Educational modules for other organs also are available, and new videos are being added regularly.
