Bariatric Surgery Patient Stories

Michael is a New Man After Bariatric Surgery

My name is Michael, and I had gastric bypass on Feb. 14, 2012.

All my life I have been overweight, constantly needing to lose weight. As a result, my health has suffered: heart problems, diabetes, neuropathy, and a host of other problems. What all linked them together? My weight.

When my doctor looked at me last year and told me I needed to lose 100 pounds within a year, I knew it was time. She told me about gastric bypass and Dr. Stahl at UAB. Looking back, I can say it was worth it.

On Feb. 14, 2012, I was 357 pounds. As of Dec. 12, 2012, I weighed 221 pounds, a loss of 136 pounds.

I feel I have my life back. Thank you to Dr. Stahl and his whole staff at UAB, my life thanks you.

I am a new man.

And I would never forget (Bariatric Surgery nurse and support group coordinator) Deborah Thedford and my wife Dorothy who have been there through it all.
