Huisingh awarded scholarship for aging research
Carrie Huisingh, M.P.H., statistician in the UAB Department of Ophthalmology, was awarded the UAB Comprehensive Center for Healthy Aging Research Scholarship in Aging for the 2014-2015 academic year. This scholarship is awarded annually to four UAB graduate students whose proposed research examines an aspect of the aging process that impacts the health and well-being of a significant segment of the elderly population.
Under the mentorship of her advisor, Gerald McGwin, Ph.D., professor and vice chair in the UAB Department of Epidemiology and holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology, Huisingh will examine the effect of driving cessation on trajectories of lifespace scores among community dwelling older adults. The scholarship will allow Huisingh to attend a seminar on mixed models, the statistical analysis required to conduct the proposed project. Huisingh is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the UAB School of Public Health.
