Genome: Unlocking Life's Code
McWane Science Center and UAB Medicine are excited to introduce a new exhibit to Birmingham. “GENOME: Unlocking Life’s Code” is an immersive, high-tech exhibit that captures the revolutionary nature of genomic science. Genome will premier to the Birmingham public on January 19, 2019, providing visitors with a 4,400 square foot exhibit that helps unravel the mysteries behind their own genetic roadmaps. “GENOME: Unlocking Life’s Code” is sponsored by UAB Medicine, Alabama’s leader in precision medicine. UAB Medicine is using its knowledge of the human genome to advance the field of precision medicine, an exciting approach to health care that combines the absolute latest in the prediction & prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease to deliver truly individualized patient care.
The “Faces of Medical Genomics Careers in Alabama” exhibit created by the Alabama Genomic Health Initiative, a partnership between UAB Medicine and HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, will also make its debut at McWane as part of the larger genome exhibit. This custom display showcases the diverse genomic medicine careers and leaders in Alabama, speaking to a child’s perspective. The goal of the exhibit is to motivate children in K-12 visiting McWane Science Center to consider genomic medicine as a potential career path.
