‘Wonders of Alabama’ Art Collection Donated to UAB by Energen Corp.
The interior decor in the West Pavilion, The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital, and other public areas across UAB Medicine recently got a boost, thanks to a major donation of art from Energen Corp.
Upon being purchased in 2018, the longtime Birmingham-based oil and natural gas company donated its Wonders of Alabama art collection to the UAB Institute for Arts in Medicine (AIM). That collection was acquired by Energen through an art competition the company held each year from 1999 to 2015. The competition exclusively featured Alabama artists, drew support for the visual arts in the state, and raised money for various local charities.
Many pieces from that collection, which includes some 260 paintings and mixed-media works, are being displayed at various locations throughout the UAB Medicine campus. Others are being kept at the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts.
The collection is a valuable resource for the AIM program, which encourages healing through the arts, and it allows patients, visitors, and employees to enjoy the benefits of creative works in a health care setting.
