The Palliative Care and Comfort Unit provides care for patients requiring symptom management and end of life support in a setting designed specifically for this patient population.

Patient Population

• 17 years of age and older

Number of beds

• 12

Nurse/Patient Ratio

• 7a 1:4-5
• 7p 1:4-5

Rotation/Shifts

• 12 hour shifts 7a-7p and 7p-7a
• Work every 3rd weekend

Skill Mix

• Registered Nurse - 67%
• Patient Care Technician 33%

Nursing Unit Orientation

• 6 weeks
• 1 week end of life classes
• 1 week consults with physicians
