General Medicine Unit

The General Medicine Unit provides care to adult patients with a variety of general medical needs.

Patient Population

  • Congestive Heart Failure
  • Diabetes
  • Pneumonia
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
  • Sickle Cell Anemia
  • Skin Integrity Disorders


Number of Beds

  • 35


Nurse/Patient Ratio

  • 7a 1:4
  • 7p 1:4-5


Rotation/Shifts

  • 12 hour shifts 7a-7p and 7p-7a
  • Modified self scheduling
  • Work every 4th weekend


Skill Mix

  • Registered Nurse - 90%
  • Patient Care Technician - 10%


Nursing Unit Orientation

  • 6-8 weeks with previous experience
  • 8-12 weeks for new graduates and non experienced RNs
