Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

The Bone Marrow Transplant staff strives to provide exceptional care to every patient while maintaining and continuously working to keep our positive culture alive in order to provide our staff with a great working environment. It is our belief that providing exceptional care to our patients begins with having a healthy culture with positive professional coworker relationships. Patient Population

  • Adults with Hematologic Malignancies receiving Allogeneic and Autologous Hematopoetic Stem Cells Transplants
  • Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s Disease, Multiple Myeloma


Number of Beds

  • 16
  • Adjoining Outpatient Clinic


Nurse/Patient Ratio

  • 1:1-3, acuity based ratio


Rotation/Shifts

  • 12 hour shifts 7a-7p and 7p-7a
  • Flexible scheduling based on unit-specific guidelines
  • Self scheduling model
  • Accommodations for school schedules so staff can advance their education


Skill Mix

  • Registered Nurse - 88%
  • Patient Care Technician - 12%


Orientation

  • Extends over the first year of employment
  • Includes 9 weeks of Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant classes
  • Unit specific orientation with experienced preceptor
  • Extensive competencies
    • Administration of Chemotherapy
    • Special Infusion Catheters
    • High Dose Therapy Regimens such as GVHD and VOD
    • General ICU competencies
