“It was the best decision I ever made,” says Kelly Key of her choice to visit the fertility experts at UAB for a second opinion. Kelly and her husband Ryan had been trying to conceive, but a positive pregnancy test continued to elude them.

At the recommendation of friends, the Keys made an appointment with   UAB’s Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility . They met with Division Director Dr. G. Wright Bates, who recommended Kelly begin  in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles. Weeks later, the Keys received the call they had been hoping for—Kelly was pregnant.

Kelly continued to receive care at UAB throughout her pregnancy. Because her  pregnancy was high-risk , Kelly was carefully monitored to ensure she and her baby stayed safe and healthy. When Kelly developed preeclampsia during her third trimester, the  maternal fetal medicine experts at UAB were by her side, and worked with her closely until the time came for her and Ryan to welcome a healthy baby boy. “I felt like we were in the best hands,” Kelly says.

Since their experience, the Keys have recommended UAB to their friends. Seeking treatment for infertility at UAB changed their lives for the better—forever.
