UAB Camellia Medical Group Welcomes Jay Whatley, MD
UAB Camellia Medical Group is pleased to announce Jay Whatley, MD, is joining the primary care practice. Whatley, a board-certified internal medicine physician and graduate of UAB Medical School, brings a passion for nutrition, exercise, and preventive medicine to the Group.
“Jay Whatley shares Camellia Medical Group’s philosophy of providing one-on-one, personalized, and compassionate care in a stress-free setting, and we are thrilled to welcome him,” says Doug Tilt, MD, founder of the Group.
Before joining UAB as a hospitalist in 2011, Whatley and his family resided in Winston-Salem, NC, where he worked as a hospitalist at Forsyth Medical Center and completed his residency and internal medicine internship at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Dr. Whatley attended The University of Alabama for his undergraduate studies and completed medical school at UAB. On a personal level, Dr. Whatley is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying canoeing, hiking, and fly fishing in his free time.
As Whatley begins his practice, the Group will bid farewell to Dr. Tilt as he transitions into retirement. “It has been an honor serving my patients these many years, and I will miss our time together,” Tilt says.
“The most valuable part of my 25 years of practicing internal medicine in Birmingham has been serving my patients, forming bonds of friendship and health, and it is what I will miss most.”
The Camellia Medical Group was founded in 2003 with the vision of establishing a personal relationship with each patient in order to provide the highest level of individualized care possible.
“When choosing my replacement, we felt it was of the utmost importance to select a physician who could continue to provide the highest level of care that Dr. Gorman Jones and I, along with the nurses and staff of the Camellia Medical Group, have offered for the last nine years,” Dr. Tilt says. “In Dr. Whatley, we have found that physician.”
