Cancer Research Needs YOU: Take Part in the CPS-3 Study

What is the CPS-3 Study?
The Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) is a grassroots effort—led by the American Cancer Society—where local communities (like ours!) can support cancer research through enrolling in the study. The purpose of the study is to better understand the factors that cause or prevent cancer and ultimately eliminate cancer as a major health problem.

How can I get involved?
Enroll in the study. It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

1. Schedule your appointment on October 2 or 3 at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center at

2. After scheduling your appointment, you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail with instructions to fill out an online survey. (The survey should be completed before your appointment.)

3. Go to your scheduled appointment. At your appointment, you will be asked to sign an informed consent form, complete a brief survey, and provide a waist circumference measurement and small blood sample (similar to a doctor’s visit). Your appointment should last about 20-30 minutes.

Note: Following enrollment, you will receive mailed surveys every few years to update your information.

Is my information confidential?
Yes. All personal information and any individual results of blood analyses performed will be kept strictly confidential by American Cancer Society research staff.
